CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Swatches Plus Review | Minx, Stunner & Vixen

CoverGirl blast flipsticks

The thought of getting two lip colors in one product caught my attention. The vision of getting two lip colors for the price of one struck me into action! When I got an email from BzzAgent asking if I’d like to try out CoverGirl blast flipstick I jumped on it since I had my eye on these already. Dual sided lipstick that can be used to create more than one look? Duh! Such a silly question BzzAgent šŸ˜‰

So, I have some likes and dislikes to share. I received three shades of CoverGirl blast flipstick and tons of coupons to share with friends. The shades I received are Minx (855), Stunner (840) and Vixen (820). I must say upfront that if you do not enjoy shimmery lips, these are msot likely not for you. I’m not a fan but I did like one of these. Covergirl blast flipstick is available at most drugstores like Walgreens and online stores like DrugStore.com and probably Amazon.com as well. They retail for about $8.50 so the price is not bad. Here’s a quick video, which my computer totally chopped up during processing…or the camera goofed up, I’m not sure but I pieced it back the best I could with an editor. Anywho, for my full review and swatch photos keep reading below.

CoverGirl blast flipsticks do not have that yummy cotton candy type smell I’ve noticed with other CoverGirl lip products. These have more of a…mildly sweet but crayon like smell. I guess that is what prevented me from licking my lips, so I’ll look at that as a plus! Being shimmery lip colors, I envisioned they’d glide on smoothly almost like a lip butter. But they are not creamy in my opinion, they are rather dry and remind me of old school matte lipstick. Better yet, the play makeup I had when I was a teacup human.  So some pre-application lip prep or post application gloss is needed. They do not last long, as soon as I took a sip of water, much of the color was left behind. It does however leave a trail, becoming more of a lip stain than lipstick. I actually really like it that way though, I drink water all day long so lip stains tend to be better for me. I like the tone of the colors, I simply do not like the shimmer or formula of the product. For each blast flipstick I like one side and hate the other, with the exception of Stunner, which is my favorite of the bunch.

Minx is not actually a bad duo. It’s actually pretty, it is simply made with shades that do not look good on me. I’m not a fan of brown lip shades as I am brown skinned and just think it looks awful. But quite a pretty tones for others who can pull these color off. I do like the golden side but that is more something I’d use for my eyes not on the lips.

Stunner in my opinion is the most wearable of the CoverGirl blast flipstick shades I received. It’s my favorite and will be joining my lip stash family. Both the soft red and rose gold side are gorgeous. While I do not like the texture or shimmer, I find that dabbing a bit on my finger then smudging on the lips makes for an adorable lip stain and far less sparkle! Clear gloss or balm gives it the final soft texture that I love for my lips.

Vixen did not impress me much. The deep pink side is pretty alone but when mixing the frosted pink, it’s extremely overbearing. I’m not a fan of the look at all. I think I’d use the deep pink only and the frosty pink would be wasted.

I love the concept, love the price and love the initial appeal but then I unlove the final result. Is unlove even a word? If not I just made it one! I feel like CoverGirl could have had something great here with a bit more effort. Using these seriously took me back to my childhood, playing dress up with kiddie makeup sets. I do like the fact of getting two colors in one product and if mixed together just right, that give you multiple options, at least three all in one product. But if blended poorly there will be a lot of lips out there looking a hot mess! Again, Stunner seems the most wearable to me and I’ll actually use it on occasion. I wouldn’t apply these directly to the lips. Instead, I suggest using a lip brush to allow better control of how and where the colors are applied. After I apply Stunner, I follow up with a clear, moisturizing balm or gloss to prevent dryness. So, not loving these but if you can get around the issues I found they aren’t all bad. Also if you do like shimmer lip color or the matte feeling, these may be great for you  so give them a try!

Disclosure: I received the products mentioned in this post for my consideration because I’m a BzzAgent. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I'm not sure if this would be for me. I don't like the feel of matte lipsticks so I'm sort of glad that I didn't get this. I had thought about it but with prices the way they are today I just hate paying for something I'm not sure about. Matte lipsticks tend to make my lips feel dry and I already have dry feeling lips. I'm always using lip butter because they dry so easily. Thanks for your review. I always trust your reviews. That's what keeps me coming back!

Thanks so much for your honest review!! I saw the empty spaces for these at my local Walgreens so I figure someone likes them…..I wanted to try a couple, but your swatches show me they are WAY too shimmery for me.
Thanks again, you saved me a few bucks and hassle of returning them!!!
