You might think I’m a little ahead of the game here, after all, we’re still waiting on Spring to come into full bloom – but if you’re already thinking about this year’s family holiday, then planning on how to keep safe is probably already on your to-do list. So, with that in mind, I’ve come up with a list of 5 super simple tips that will help keep safe on holiday! They could even apply to everyday life. Read on for some helpful advice.
Remember – if you’re planning a holiday at home or abroad, consider some travel insurance. If you’re unsure of the kind you’ll need, check out UHC Safe Trip for the latest advice and prices.
Give The Kids A Set Of Contact Details
There are several ways you can do this. Either by writing down the name of your hotel and a contact number for you or your accommodation on a bit of paper and then putting it in a zip-up pocket on your child’s clothing. Or you can purchase ID bracelets where you can put all the relevant information onto a slip of paper and place it in the little window of the bracelet. If you have older children with smartphones, make sure they’re fully charged and put all the details they’ll need on the phone for them.
Choose A Meeting Point
Summer holidays means crowded places, and it’s so easy to get lost in the crowd. Consider choosing a landmark or meeting point for everyone to meet at if someone gets lost. Choose something big and easy to spot.
Tell The Kids What To Do If They Get Lost
Giving your little one instructions for if they get lost will certainly make reuniting with them much easier – and hopefully quicker. Advise them that if they can’t find you, they should look out for another parent with children and to ask them for help. Or if they see a police officer, ask for assistance. Or head into a shop or a café and ask someone behind the counter. If you’re going to give them instructions, its best to do this in advance of the holiday, as it might be a lot to take in while they’re excited and in a new place.
Pack A First Aid Kit
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but you’ll be certainly glad you packed one! Make sure your mini first aid kit has plenty of plasters, antiseptic cream, antihistamines and the medicine you usually take when feeling under the weather.
Check Your Hotel Room
It’s easy to overlook small details when you’re booking a hotel room online. So when you get there, do a few checks. If there’s a balcony, make sure there’s no way your child can climb onto the ledge. Make sure the patio doors lock securely. Make sure fire escapes are accessible and that the doors lock.
