Rent The Runway – Designer Style Made Easy & Affordable! #Fashion

My birthday was last weekend and I had an amazing time wearing fabulous dresses from Rent The Runway! I wanted to get all dressed up without pouncing on unsuspecting racks of clothing like a wild beast searching for its next meal. Last year I planned a celebration and by the time I shopped for my outfit I was exhausted and cranky. I’m surprised I wasn’t found rocking back and forth in a corner, twirling my hair and wearing a onesie! This year I vowed no event planning and I left my outfit worries to Rent The Runway, who I shall dub my personal fashion assistant. Honestly, I’m just not the type to spend $200+ on a dress I’m going to wear once. By the way, you can get a $20 credit for Rent The Runway when you create a free account. 😉

Mina Slater's Birthday with Rent The RunwayI got two dresses, perfect since my birthday fell on Saturday and I decided to celebrate the whole weekend. They have dresses starting at $30 from sizes 0-22 and accessories like jewelery and handbags starting at $5. On Friday I wore the Nicole Miller Jaw Dropper Dress which retails for $245 but is $50 via Rent The Runway. Its a gorgeous purple dress, shaped like a pencil skirt, has a square neckline and open back! I got it in a size small and a second in size medium, a free feature they provide to help ensure your dress fits. I ended up wearing the small. I felt gorgeous and I loved that I still looked classy in this body hugging dress.

Nicole Miller Jaw Dropper Dress from Rent The Runway via Mina Slater Nicole Miller Jaw Dropper Dress from Rent The Runway - Mina SlaterI styled it with champagne colored New York Transit heels from The Shoe Department, Satin Finish Kite Earring and Studded Buckle Wristlet from Cato Fashions and my Fossil Georgia Three-Hand Bangle watch.  I spent the evening in downtown Orlando at Elixir and Wall St with friends chatting, laughing, eating birthday cupcakes and dancing the night away!

Nicole Miller Jaw Dropper Dress from Rent The Runway via Mina SlaterNext up my official birthday dress, the Halston Heritage Confetti Dot Dress, retail price $595 and rental price of $85 via Rent The Runway. This dress just screams celebration to me! It was so comfortable and perfect for a dinner party, birthday party…anything party! Two things I love are polka dots and full skirts, this dress has both! It’s strapless with a ruched top, a hidden zipper and friggin pockets! Pockets = love!

Halston Heritage Confetti Dot Dress from Rent The Runway via Mina Slater Halston Heritage Confetti Dot Dress from Rent The Runway via Mina SlaterI styled it with a chains & pearls necklace I made years ago, some pearl earrings, my Rakani Stuck In Traffic Watch and comfy black flats from Payless for 5 bucks!. I got this silk dress in a size 4 and I was honestly a bit worried if my boobays would fit because this petite gal is actually a D cup. Yes, I’m 33 and I say boobays. 😉 It actually sort of minimized my upper area and I liked that. The dress fit perfectly, it’s fashion magic I tell you!

Halston Heritage Confetti Dot Dress from Rent The Runway via Mina SlaterIf you’ve never heard of or used Rent The Runway, here’s a a bit about how it works. The site lets you enter your sizes so you can optionally find photos of dresses worn by others with your body type. You can also search by designer, occasion, color, price and dress type. Users leave mini reviews about the garments, usually including photos, so you can hear the positive and/or negative info from other customers. It’s helpful to know ahead of time if most people find that a dress runs small or rises with movement. Rent The Runway even suggests what type of undergarments to wear and ways to style it with accessories. Once you find the dress you want select your size and your optional free backup size, then enter the arrival date you need.

Rent The Runway DeliveryYou can get a 4 or 8 day rental and Rent The Runway suggests you request an arrival 1-2 days before your event. Your dress will come on hangers, in protective covering and inside a Rent The Runway garment bag. This is all neatly tucked in a shipping box which includes a prepaid return envelope. When it’s time to return your rental items simply place in the protective covering and then into the prepaid envelope, then schedule a pickup or drop off at your local UPS location or drop box. The nifty garment bag and hangers are yours to keep! Yes, I got excited about that. It was an extremely simple process for me. Stress free, fabulous 33rd birthday weekend just like I hoped for!

Rent The Runway - Easy Free ReturnConclusion: As someone who loves designer fashion but loathes designer prices, this is a great option for special occasions or just to dress up for a night out. Rent The Runway is to me what tux rentals are for men, uber smart! I’m over buying dresses to wear once and sit in my closet until the end of time wasting space. If it’s not my prom or wedding dress, it can go! I will definitely use Rent The Runway again, probably when I go to New York in May!

Finally something that makes sense. I would always complain when my husband told me we had to go somewhere where I would need to get really dressed up. Spending a small fortune on a one night outfit just is not my style. You looked amazing in all the dresses.

    • March 31, 2014 / 7:18 PM

Thank you! Exactly! That’s how I feel too, I could use the money on other things instead of spending tons on a 1 time outfit.

    • March 31, 2014 / 7:20 PM

Thank you Lawna! I really liked how it fit, like it showed my shape without being skin tight or inappropriate. The polka dot dress was so fun & comfy.

Rent the Runway sounds like a great service for people who want to look their best, but don’t want to spend a tom of money doing it. The confetti dress looks great on you too!

    • March 31, 2014 / 7:30 PM

I agree. It makes sense to rent the designer clothes you want for cheaper since it’ll only be worn once.

  25. April 1, 2014 / 2:32 PM

Aww, I know. That would be so awesome Eugenia! I can’t swap with any of my nearby friends because we’re all different sizes lol. Plus I love your style.

  32. April 1, 2014 / 4:50 PM

I love the confetti dot dress! You styled it beautifully. Love the designer dress with PayLess flats 🙂

  33. April 1, 2014 / 5:07 PM

I have a friend who gets all her dresses for every major life event and every wedding from Rent the Runway. She swears by it. Honestly I’m a little skeptical of the idea of paying so much just to rent a dress when I feel like I could buy something that is equally flattering, although not designer, for nearly the same price. Love these dresses on you! – Katy

That’s really neat how you can rent expensive dresses for a period and then just return them. Where was this company when I had my prom?!! LOL

    April 1, 2014 / 6:18 PM

Happy Birthday!! The things I loved about this service — 1) They send you 2 sizes in case one doesn’t fit. How great is that?! 2) pre-paid mailer for returning the dresses. So cool. 3) They tell you what to wear under and with. I need someone to do that for me.
Love the dresses on you and so glad that you enjoyed your weekend.

Rent the Runway make so much sense, your’re right about it being like renting a tux. That confetti polka dot dress is so fun but So expensive. It’s great to be able to rent something like that.

  38. April 1, 2014 / 6:51 PM

So I had heard of Rent the Runway but didn’t really know what it entailed. I’d really like to use the service now that I know more. I’m not a dress wearer all that much, so paying an arm and a leg for one just doesn’t make sense for me. This sounds like the perfect solution!
