I received my August Julep Maven It Girl box yesterday but the weather was rude and literally rained on my parade! The sky was angry and dark with clouds and rumbling thunder. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get this post up since I prefer natural lighting for beauty swatches. I was so bummed! Before I get to this month’s nail polish swatches and box info, I have to mention that I love how quickly my boxes arrive. I got my tracking email July 27th and it arrived yesterday, July 30th. It’s this way every month and I appreciate that!

- Harley – Liquid silver metallic chrome [/heartlist]

August marks one year of the Julep Maven program so they are celebrating their birthday. Happy Birthday Julep Maven! 🙂 All maven boxes are themed by the metallic and chrome trend. I’m typically not a fan of chromes or metallics because not every brand gets the formula right. Regardless, it’ hard to resist my Julep Maven It Girl boxes because I’m seriously falling in love with nail polish lately. Anywho, Julep threw in this cute 80% recycled bag. I can always find uses for bags like this so I’m happy.

Sienna
Sienna is a pretty gold shade full of shimmer. In the bottle it looked pretty but I honestly thought I wouldn’t be a fan of the formula. Surprisingly once I got it on my nails, I loved it. For me, this is one of the easiest applications I’ve experienced using a Julep nail polish. Not too runny or thick, just right. I could have used one coat but went for my usual two coats of polish. I could see myself using this for some sort of nail art in the future.

Melanie
Melanie is described as a pastel indigo metallic chrome. I thought I may have a dupe for this but when I searched through my nail polish collection, gladly I found none. This is the one color I really had high hopes for and it surely didn’t disappoint! I absolutely love this nail polish. It glides on easily just like Sienna did. It’s a bit sheer and that’s a positive in my book. I like sheer nail polish because you can start light and build to a deeper color by applying more coats. I went with a deeper color for now since I tend to prefer bold nails with pastel clothes in Spring and Summer, while sporting pastel nails with bold colored clothing in Fall and Winter.

Harley
Harley is a liquid silver metallic chrome and unfortunately I don’t like it. I like the color but the formula is an epic fail for me. It was rather runny and the finish is pretty but streaky. I’m not a fan of nail polish that appears streaky, I like a smooth finish. I could try to use it for nail art but I think I’ll pass it on to a friend that may like it. For now I’ll stick with Trixie by Zoya, love it!

Julep Maven is a monthly subscription program in which you receive new Sneak Peek Box of Julep products. Each month you’ll receive an email letting you know your box is ready and a preview of what it includes. You’ll then have until the 25th of the month to request a different box, send your box to a friend or skip the month for no charge. If you want the box chosen for you, you’ll be charged $19.99 and the box will be shipped to you.
Julep Maven often gives the opportunity to try the first box at a deep discount, sometimes just 1 cent! Entering the promotion code “PennyIntro” or “Color2012” at checkout may work so give that a shot if you decide to try Julep. I think the program is worth enrolling in simply because you can try it out cheap, there is no obligation to buy since you skip months without being charged and if you do purchase you get over $40 worth of Julep products for $19.99 which is a good saving. Of course everyone has their own preferences so check out Julep.com and decide for yourself.
I just got my August box today and had switched from Classic with a Twist to Bombshell. I love Harley and mine is not at all streaky. I did put one layer on top of a thin layer of two day old pale pink though and the coverage is excellent, no streaks whatsoever. On the other hand Kim is not very metallic and more of a dark dark grey than a true black. All in all I'm very happy with Julep, especially their excellent customer service! I have lots of quetions and they email back fast and even fixed my goofed-up attempt to use a voucher which I did incorrectly. They removed the item and said wait for it in August and I can get Melanie with my "One free polish" voucher! Thank you for showing the colors ON YOUR NAILS! It helps lots to see them on rather than just in the bottle. It's funny but my intro box Robin sure looks a lot like one of your July colors (I forgot the name). I wish I had picked It girl this month, oh well, there's always next month.
Absolutely adorable! I love to have some boxes of these nail polish!
