Julep Maven April 2013 Modern Beauty Review

Julep Maven April 2013 Modern Beauty box

Today I’m reviewing the 2nd edition of the Julep Maven Modern Beauty box (formerly American Beauty). This month, Julep threw in a nail and cuticle serum and a hair care product. I don’t hate the items in this box but I must admit I’m just not overly excited about it either. I think because the April theme is Turn On The Brights, I thought something in this beauty box would be related to that. Perhaps hair chalk to play up your strands with colorful streaks, intense lip colors or even body bronzer.

Julep Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum Review

Julep Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum is stated to have collagen for cuticles and peptides to build keratin for nails. It is supposed to help dry, damaged cuticles look healthy and nails grow smoother, stronger and less fragile in 2-3 weeks. It is meant to be applied twice daily.

Julep Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum comes in a silver, metal twist tube. I have a love hate relationship with the packaging. I like it because it looks sleek and is a nice size for on-the-go purse tossing. However, I sort of wish it could be in a sheer tube! I have no way of knowing how much product is left and the tube doesn’t display any weight verbiage. So there is nothing to indicate how much product you had in the tube in the first place! If you like to refill items before you run out like I do, good luck with that!

Julep Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum closeup. You can see that the area surrounding the tip is a bit messy from serum being inside the cap, but it doesn’t leak out so it’s no big deal for me.

On one end you twist to release the serum and one twist is enough for both hands. The other end is where the applicator brush is. I like this applicator, it makes the process super easy. I tend to think of serum in gel form but this is a liquid. When I first opened it, the liquid serum was inside the cap but it wasn’t crazy and the cap fits snug so I’m not worried about it ruining a purse. I’m not sure if it was a slight leak or if it had been twisted several times before I got it…mystery. Anywho…it’s not oily and the serum absorbs quickly. I’ve only been using Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum for 2-3 days but so far it’s a keeper, at least for 3 weeks so I can see if there is a difference in my nail and cuticle appearance.

Julep Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo

Julep Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo is supposed to give you and your hair a break. It’s stated to leave no residue, absorb oil and add body. I already have thick hair with body so I can’t say I’ve noticed the ”add body” claim to be true. I can say that it did absorb oil and there was no residue after use.

This doesn’t have a crazy, omg I’m going to cough up a lung, aerosol affect. My asthma and bronchitis wouldn’t be happy about that! I also like the spray pattern this has, not that aggressive straight shooting stuff. I’m not a big fan of dry shampoo, I guess I just don’t get it, so I’m not uber excited about Julep Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo. I’ll keep it around though, surely it’ll come to be useful on vacation or something!

Julep Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo, I like the misting spray pattern, helps make sure too much product isn’t placed in one spot.

Again, I don’t hate this box but I wouldn’t jump to buy these with excitement…especially at their price point! Julep Nail & Cuticle Serum retails for $28 ($24.40 for mavens) and Julep Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo is $22 ($17.60 for mavens). Umm, no thanks. These just aren’t worth those prices to me and they aren’t competitive with similar items on the market for less. Want to see Julep Maven April 2013 nail polish swatches?
