January Beauty Empties | OFRA, Bumble and bumble Plus More

January Beauty Empties

1 of my 14 resolutions for ‘14 is to waste less products. As a beauty blogger who reviews a lot, it can be tough to use up all of a product but I’m determined! I’m on a mission to have some empty product bottles to report on every month. I’ll use what I can and share others so they don’t go to waste. Worst case scenario is tossing things out but only if they’ve expired. Without further ado, here are my January beauty empties.

January Beauty Empties

OFRA Cosmetics Vitamin C Cleanser

This is my primary cleanser that I’ve used repeatedly since last year and it’s my favorite cleanser in the history of everdom! OFRA Cosmetics Vitamin C Cleanser cleans extremely well, doesn’t leave my skin dry and has actually helped balance my skin tone over time. I like the bottle shape since it takes up less counter space and I prefer this pump over squeezing tubes of product. Check out my Skintastic Spotlight | OFRA Cosmetics Vitamin C Cleanser review for more about this cleanser.

Bumble and bumble Color Minded Shampoo

I used to dye my hair dark brown and also jet black for a while so I tried Bumble and bumble Color Minded Shampoo which is sulfate free. I loved it so much that even though I haven’t colored my hair in at least a year, I still kept getting this product! It’s gentle, gets the job done without stripping color and smells great. I fell in love with another shampoo recently so even though I’m a huge fan of Color Minded, I don’t think I’ll purchase another bottle unless I color my hair again.

Kai Body Polish

Good golly this stuff smells insanely divine! Kai Body Polish gently exfoliates the skin, doesn’t leave my body or shower greasy and the fragrance…there are not enough words for it’s awesomeness! I need a lifetime supply of this. I’ll definitely be getting another tub of it! You can see my Kai Shampoo, Conditioner And Body Polish Review for more info.

Swanson Hair, Skin & Nails

I’m a repeat shopper at Swanson Vitamins. They have great prices, a lot of natural product choices and sell more than just supplements like shampoo, makeup & more). Plus I like that they offer other brands in addition to their own. I decided to try out a 30 day supply of Swanson Premium Hair, Skin & Nails (60 tabs). While I did notice things that made me happy like fast nail growth and what seems to be stronger hair at the roots, there is a major drawback for me personally. These tablets are friggin huge to me! Hair, Skin & Nails worked but I have a hard time swallowing pills so I think I’ll need to find something smaller…and maybe chewable. 😉

I would be interested in trying those SWANSON HAIR, SKIN & NAILs, but if they are that big, I may need to swallow them in some applesauce 🙂

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:28 AM

They did help, especially my nails right away. I didn’t think to try swallowing them with something like applesauce! Maybe I’ll go ahead & reorder to try it that way since I do like the benefits.

I didn’t even make ONE resolution…. never do. That way if I don’t stick to something, I don’t feel bad. I really need to empty some bottles too… those things can sure pile up.

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:30 AM

Lol I was about to skip resolutions but then my friend reminded me so I just went for it. I’m doing well so far on all 14, lets hope I can keep it up!

Such a great post! I too love Bumble and Bumble products, and those hair/skin/nail vitamins sound wonderful!

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:31 AM

Bumble and bumble is great! I think since I don’t color my hair anymore maybe I’ll try some of their other products instead. The Swanson tabs really did help, I just have to learn how to swallow pills!

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:33 AM

Lol thanks! I was pretty happy with 4 empties. 🙂 Uh oh, looks like you might be doing some cyber window shopping soon then! Lol.

I never thought about the fact you would have a tough time using everything up when there is more following right behind. My empties are shampoo and conditioner which you just reminded me I’d better pick up stat!

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:37 AM

Yes it piles up so fast because you try something a few weeks, then have to try something else to get the next review ready. That’s awesome! Shampoo is tough for me but I run through conditioner super fast because I often use way more than the directions say!

These look like good products i find that sometimes i will get sent something like lets say shampoo i will be using it a few times and get sent a different one so have to try it out and then like that one even more,so we have tons and tons of half empty bottles of allsorts lol.i really must try using everything up.

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:46 AM

Yes that’s exactly what happens! Lol. Give it a try, you’ll feel pretty happy when you clear some of that space those extra products are taking up.

You make the body polish sound especially inviting! I’d like it just because it smells good! 🙂

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:47 AM

I can’t even explain how much I love the Kai Body Polish…it smells so amazing! I want to buy the fragrance too.

I like your idea of talking about empty bottles of cosmetics that you have used in the past. It is really creative.. I am not so big on beauty products but I am a sucker for a good skin moisturizer. 🙂

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:51 AM

Thank you! I saw some other gals making videos on Youtube about products they’ve used up so I figured, hey I can do that! I don’t have much time for video making right now so I’m going to just post it on the blog for now. 🙂 Lol I love moisturizer…I have one that will probably be empty this month!

I don’t have any empties today. But I would like to try the sulfate free shampoo on my dry hair.

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:52 AM

I love it! They have conditioner and styling cream that goes with it too. I love the whole line!

I haven’t tried any of them, but I do have a couple empties from January. I went through a bottle of hemp lotion so fast.

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:53 AM

Awesome! I’ve heard so much about hemp lotion, I really need to put that on my must try list!

i have not tried any of these products. i would like to try the cleanser.

    • February 6, 2014 / 10:55 AM

Love it! The OFRA vitamin C cleanser is one of the few products I’ve been able to consistently use & reorder for a year straight.

I have also been attempting to use up what I have in the closet–from bubble bath to soaps etc. I did manage to use up a big bottle of bubble bath and a couple of small sample size shampoos-and almost one full bar of soap! I have a feeling I may have to just throw away a lot of out dated stuff real soon (makeup-skin anti aging products, serums etc.

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:04 AM

That’s awesome! Same here, I just threw out about a dozen expired face creams, mascara, serum, etc. Just as I emptied out all of that the UPS guy knocked on the door with 2 more packages. Guess it’s a good thing I made that space!

Good luck with your resolution! Hope you can keep it 🙂 I would like to try Kai Pody Polis, sounds like a great product.

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:05 AM

Thank you! I’m going try really hard. The Kai body polish is amazing, I’m so addicted to the smell…I feel like I’m on vacation at a spa resort. Lol

  13. February 5, 2014 / 6:57 PM

I dont have any empties yet but I will soon, But no I have not try any of these before, but would love to try the tabs

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:06 AM

I liked the benefits of the hair, skin & nails tabs but I really have to learn to swallow pills! Lol

I’m intrigued by the sulfate-free shampoo – I have a hard time finding one I love!

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:07 AM

I really like the Bumble and bumble one. The other one I use now since I no longer color my hair is by DermOrganic.

  15. February 5, 2014 / 8:00 PM

Ekk those pills look huge! I’m normally ok with most but I think even I would struggle with them. I take a liquid form for hair and nails so hopefully you might be able to find something like that 🙂 x

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:10 AM

Okay so it’s not just my brain thinking they’re big! Lol. Ooh, yes I’ll look for the liquid version. My daily vitamin is a liquid that my doctor suggested & I really prefer it that way!

  16. February 5, 2014 / 8:34 PM

Good luck with your resolution! I have not tried any of these either.

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:11 AM

Thank you! I’m going to try hard to stick to it.

I need the hair skin and nails – my nails are horrible. Of course all the products would be good for pampering yourself with.

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:13 AM

Haha you have to pamper yourself a bit! 😉 My nails were getting bad too, they were suddenly weak, brittle and constantly breaking. So the tabs did help with that.

    February 5, 2014 / 10:46 PM

I need to find some new skincare products. I hate to waste (like you) so I tend to use ones that don’t work until they are gone before trying new.

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:17 AM

My skin is sensitive so if I find that something doesn’t work for me I try to give it to a family member or friend who’d like to try it. For things that come in a jar, I scoop out a quarter of the product into my own reusable tin so just in case I have to give it away, the remaining product is clean & untouched for the next person. If it’s something in a pump bottle I just give it as is.

  19. February 6, 2014 / 12:26 AM

Nice! I would love to try the body polish. It would be a nice little spa treatment for myself. ha Simple .

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:18 AM

Yes! It’s just like a spa treatment, the smell is just so soothing and amazing!

I think it’s a good goal to use as much as you can with the products you receive. I’m sure the OFRA Cosmetics Vitamin C Cleanser went quickly. Good stuff

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:20 AM

I’m trying hard to stick with the goal! Such clutter and it feels so wasteful not to use as much as possible or give things to someone else who can use them. I love the OFRA Vitamin C Cleanser, it’s my holy grail cleanser!

    February 6, 2014 / 8:32 AM

I could definitely use the Swanson Vitamins. I would have to see if its safe for nursing mothers.

    • February 6, 2014 / 11:21 AM

Hmm…I wonder that too. I’m going to ask them before suggesting to my friend, she recently had a baby and she’s nursing.

    February 6, 2014 / 11:42 AM

What a nice selection you’re presenting. I wonder what’s in the vitamins – I know that prenatals often help with hair, etc, so it would be nice if it had some folate!

I’ve never heard of this company and am interesting in the hair, nails and skin vitamin! I just started taking one and if this one doesn’t work, I may be interesting in another brand!

    February 6, 2014 / 6:32 PM

I need to follow your lead and start using up some of my products. For me, I hoard things for a “special” occasion, then it ends up going bad. Well, I’m treating every day like a special occasion now!

  29. February 7, 2014 / 2:25 AM

I love the vitamin C cleanser because it doesn’t dry up your skin. My skin is sensitive so it could use a gentle cleanser like this one.

What an awesome resolution! I have what I like to call my “Sink of Shame” that holds a ton of products I some how managed not to empty! I commend you as a beauty blogger to do this!

I need to do the same and start finishing all the half empty bottles I have lol

  33. February 10, 2014 / 3:28 PM

I take biotin for my hair and nails. My only problem is to remember to take it on a daily basis. The size is not that bad, but you have to drink a lot of water to not have any breakouts.

  34. February 10, 2014 / 7:54 PM

Hi! Stopping by from SITSgirls. I love Bumble and Bumble. I typically use the thickening shampoo and conditioner because my hair is really fine, but I also color my hair so I will have to give color minded a try.

  35. February 10, 2014 / 8:32 PM

Awesome! I have loved Bumble and Bumble products for a long time, but have yet to empty one of their bottles! I always seem to get about half way through one and then get bored!

Nice reviews…..I would love to do some myself. What advice do you have for a beginner blogger to get into doing product reviews? That is an interesting new years resolution, can’t say I know anyone else who is striving for this. Good luck!
