Healthy Habits: Gym Bag Essentials

Throughout most of my life I’ve had an “eat what I want, when I want and I don’t need a gym” type of mentality. I’ve been on dance teams, was obsessed with running and I grew up in the northeast where walking is a major part of commuting. I’ve always been physically active in some way and I’m naturally petite so I just figured the gym wasn’t for me. Then I moved to Florida, the land of driving to reach your mailbox. Now I realize the gym isn’t just about working out to lose weight or get Popeye muscles, it is about good health! Without physical activity our bodies lose strength and flexibility. Working out also helps relieve stress and it’s a great way to get out of the house if you work from home like I do. Well the first time I went to the gym I showed up in work out clothes and brought nothing except my keys and license with me. I wasn’t thinking about the type of gym I was joining or my busy lifestyle. Now I have gym bag essentials neatly packed and ready to go. Other than workout threads (duh) here’s a peek at what’s inside…

Gym Bag Essentials

I bring my own water bottle because it saves me money from buying it at the gym plus I’m a water snob and don’t like certain types. I use the one pictured the most because of my love for travel. It’s sold out but there are plenty of these map water bottles to choose from. Staying hydrated is vital, especially when working out because of the increased sweat. So you need to replace the fluid your body is losing due to exercise. Sports drinks are good because they have electrolytes but I prefer good old H2O as well! I usually have my bottle filled with cucumber water, coconut water or my preferred bottled water brand. My Bluetooth headphones come in handy while listening to music, audio books and even answering important phone calls. I have several inhalers for my asthma and one stays in my bag so I never forget.

My gym in Celebration has an indoor heated pool, sauna and steam room so of course a swimsuit is a must have! There is also a full service locker room with showers which is awesome because it actually looks like a spa. Showering at the gym is great so you don’t have to drive home sweaty and if you’re like me, you probably have appointments or events right after gym time! I like to bring my own towel plus flip flops or water shoes. Then of course I have moisturizer, anti-antiperspirant and cleansers. The gym has some toiletries but I have sensitive skin so I prefer my own product choices.

Because I often have events, luncheons and appointments I bring a little bit of glam magic in my bag. A comb, hair brush and styling product to get my hair under control. Nothing too glamorous like curling wands or anything. I usually just pin my hair up into a cute bun or something. For makeup I keep it simple with a good CC cream, eyeliner, mascara and a bold lip color. I don’t take as much time getting ready as I would if I were at home so a bold lipstick choice is always a perfect way to look great without much effort!
