DIY Bow Tie – How To Make Your Own Bow Tie – Easy, No Sewing Needed

Easy How To - No-Sew DIY Bow Tie via @minaslater

Today I’m going to show you how to make a bow tie without sewing in less than 5 minutes! This is so simple, even kids can do it, plus it’s super frugal! It all started when I was heading to the Justin Timberlake 20/20 Experience World Tour concert with Muffin. I decided to go all dressed up in black in white and be on my Suit & Tie. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I had no time to go on beast mode to search stores for a bow tie so I decided to try to make my own super quick with things I had sitting around the house. I think it turned out well and I got a lot of compliments that night. My DIY bow tie was a hit! Dudes aren’t the only ones that can rock em ๐Ÿ˜‰ See below how I did it…

Excuse the poorly lit hotel room selfies ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was way too excited for the show to keep trying for better snapshots!

DIY – Do It Yourself Bow Tie (No-Sew)

What you will need: 1 hair elastic, 1 wrap headband (a scarf or other piece of fabric will also work) Note: My wrap headband is about 32 inches long.

  • Fold 1 end over about 5 inches. (Fold over again if material is very thin). Leave the remaining length loose and forget about it for now.
  • Pinch in the center of the 5 inch fold. I find it best when there are 3 folds in the center, the resulting shape looks better!
  • Secure the pinched center with hair elastic (just like you would a pony tail). Don’t make it too tight, you’ll need a bit of leeway for the final step…wearing your new bow tie!

Easy How To - No-Sew DIY Bow Tie via @minaslaterHow do you wear it? Piece of pie! Take that loose end from step 1 and loop it into the secured pinched center of the bow from step 3. Pull taught to adjust to your neck size and comfort level. I decided to leave the tail end exposed but you can tuck it under or simply cut it if you choose. I didn’t want to cut mine because I wanted the option to use it for other things or lend it to friends. You can also use these as head band bows and belts. Or find the perfect fabric to make bow ties for groomsmen to save costs on your wedding! Seriously, why not do it yourself? I can’t wait to start playing with different colors, patterns and shapes to make more of these! Fast, easy DIY projects are so fun! Agreed?

I really like this! Because I think I can actually do this. Often these tutorials are quite difficult, but this one, I can do! So thank you! I think I’ll make a bow tie for my youngest son, because he’s really into ties.

My 19 year old son has a recent fascination with wearing a bow tie. He gets all decked out for his college classes – dress pants, button down shirt and a bow tie. I’m going to pin this so I can, maybe, make a couple.

Just dropping by from the SITS Girl comment challenge.
