Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser Review

Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser Review

Burt’s Bees has a new Natural Skin Solutions line for sensitive skin and BzzAgent sent me a BzzKit to try the new line. Gosh I love being a BzzAgent! In the kit I received full-sized Burt’s Bees Natural Skin Solutions Sensitive Facial Cleanser and Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream, an official BzzGuide telling me all about the product line and several samples and coupons to share with my friends. I feel differently about each product so I will post about one product at a time.

Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser:

[quoteicon author=”Burt’s Bees”]This soap-free cream cleanser is clinically proven to moisturize sensitive skin while gently cleansing away dirt, oil and make-up without over drying or causing redness. Distinctly formulated with softening Cotton Extract to help skin replenish its outer layer and minimize the effects of potential irritants such as harsh soaps or cleansers, it also moisturizes with Rice Extract and soothes with Aloe. Naturally gentle and skin-friendly for daily use, it’s what every sensitive product should be. [/quoteicon]

Burt’s Bee’s Sensitive Facial Cleanser comes in a tall, 6oz squeeze tube and retails for $10. The container states on the back that it used no animal testing, includes no Parabens, Phthalates or Petrochemicals, is 50% post-consumer content,  made in the USA and includes an 800 number to contact the company. It also has the following selling points:

  • Softens and helps replenish skin’s outer layer with Cotton Extract
  • Gently removes dirt, oil and make-up without over drying or causing redness
  • Soap free and 99% natural
  • Rice extract to moisturize and Aloe to soothe
  • Fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic
  • Allergy-tested and dermatologist-tested
  • No animal testing
  • Gentle enough for daily use

The product has  a creamy texture with an off white color. It is fragrance free so there is nothing much to smell here! Anyone with sensitive skin knows fragrance free products are a huge factor in preventing skin irritation. Although it is creamy at a glance and upon first touch, if you rub it a bit with your fingers you may notice the texture begins to change. To me it seemed slightly thick and gooey, then dissolved. Don’t let that scare you though, it was nothing horrible like mushing mayonnaise all over your face. Look at it as a reminder that your face needs to be wet before applying the cleanser, then it will feel rather smooth and pleasant.

The texture is creamy with an off white color.

This cleanser is soap free and does not lather or provide any suds. When I said it is creamy I meant exactly that. After wetting my face and applying the cleanser to my face it reminded me more of using a night cream than a cleanser. It is possible that this is reason that I do not get that freshly cleansed face feeling after using this. Because of that, I repeat the cleansing process before moving onto moisturizing. Also, it unfortunately did not easily remove my makeup. I only wore eye makeup and none of it was waterproof. I use makeup remover but wanted to test the “cleanses away makeup” bit. With that said, I end up using twice the amount of product (more if removing makeup) meaning I would need to purchase more often than with my typical cleanser. No bueno.

This creamy cleanser is soap free.

As with any product, I did an allergy test and everything worked out dandy. After two weeks of continued use I can say that I never had any skin irritation due to this cleanser. So cookie points and major kudos for Burt’s Bees on that one! So I guess the claims to be hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic, allergy and dermatologist tested were true. At least in my case! I love the thought of a 99% natural product, irritation free skin and no animal testing, however I personally prefer a cleanser that suds, lathers or has a bit of a scrub to it.
[xrrgroup imageset=”shiny_yellow_star”][xrr label=”Price: Not bad but some stiff competition is priced less” rating=”3.5/5″ group=”s1″] [xrr label=”Packaging: The packaging is simplistic and I love it!” rating=”4.5/5″ group=”s1″] [xrr label=”Product: Lived up to sensitive skin claims but cleansing is a toss up.” rating=”3/5″ group=”s1″] [xrr label=”Overall: I don’t love it…but I like it.” overall=true group=”s1″][/xrrgroup]
Conclusion: I experienced no irritation but my face didn’t feel clean, I prefer my cleanser to lather or have a gentle scrub infused with it. I’d probably keep this as a backup to use when my skin has been irritated by something. It did not cause extra oil nor dry out my skin. The price point is average, could be lower to compete with a few other good drugstore cleansers that are less but worth a try for extremely sensitive skin. Burt’s Bees is a trusted brand so that is a plus.

$10? Not bad, I love Burt's Bees. Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll buy this for when my skin is acting a fool, like you said.

@MelissaColon Yes you should, it's worth it when your skin is irritated. Just remove your makeup first because like I said, it doesn't really remove it all so you'll end up using extra.

I'll definitely have to check this out :D! I've heard a lot of great things about Burt's Bees and my sister says she really likes their skin care kit for acne. Thanks for following 😀

@Opal Stevens My cousin raves about Burt's Bees acne kit too! I like their lip balms as well, I think they're a pretty good company!

I love burt bee's products some are better than others and although they're a bit pricy my absolute must have is their whitening toothpaste without flouride 😉

    • November 27, 2011 / 4:47 PM

@Melissa Emily Ooh, I didn't even know they made toothpaste, I'll have to check that out!

That is disappointing that it didn't make your face feel clean. I am usually a fan of Burts Bees products but I will have to steer clear of this one! xo

Hi Sarah, yes I was pretty surprised about it. I love most of their products so I was excited about this one. Unfortunately it just didn't live up to standard for me. The moisturizer from this line is good though, I use it every day! 😉

@Mina Slater yeah!! I like stuff without flouride so it's hard to find toothpaste without it they sell both types with and without. it's a bit thick to squeeze out from the package but it's more natural it's def. a win for me 🙂

Nice Blog..haven't been here before. You should consider my Fashionista event March 2-7. I will be back to read your opinions on beauty. Thanks for this review…I usually adore Burt's Bees but every product is different right?

Oh that sounds very interesting, I'll check that out, thanks! And yes, I love Burt's Bees too but I guess this one just didn't wow me, lol.

I've only used Burt's Bees for chapstick, but I've heard good things. Too bad this particular one didn't work. Great review anyway!!

    • December 21, 2011 / 8:03 AM

@Janet K Me too, love their chapsticks! Just not in love with this cleanser but I really liked the moisturizer that goes with it though. I need to get that review posted!

Thanks for the insight – it does sound like something that would work when you need to take a break from a regular cleanser, but the texture looks strange to me… more like a lotion than a cleanser…

    • December 21, 2011 / 8:01 AM

@Acting Balanced Mom Yes exactly! About the texture, you're right, it's rather odd…it felt like a night cream instead of cleanser. It has it's good qualities too but maybe it just takes some getting used to…for now it'll remain as my backup cleanser 🙂

I didn't totally love the cleanser either. I did at first, but then started to feel like I had a build-up. It seems like some Burt's Bees products are great and others are just sort of meh.

I have sensitive skin so this is great to read about. I'm on the hunt for something gentle like this.

I buy Made from Earth's Green Tea Cleanser for my 12 year old daughter. She has sensitive skin and this is perfect for her. Keeps her skin clear and beautiful. Very gentle cleanser that is well worth the great price.
