Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight Review

Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight

You’ve probably heard me call my hair stravy before. It’s partially curly and wavy with stubborn parts that like to be almost straight…my hair does what it wants when it wants! I’m always on a quest to make my hair easier to manage while still maintaining healthy strands without permanently (chemically) altering my natural texture. My hair fights most smoothing products. When I used relaxers many years ago even that didn’t fully get rid of my curls, it temporarily turned them into loose waves! I tested out Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight styling creme and I’m ready to share my thoughts so far.

Before using Aveda Naturally Straight
Before: My hair in its slept on, 3rd day glory. Humidity made it start reverting.

From Aveda: Go from naturally curly to naturally straight. Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Naturally Straight is a lightweight styling creme that progressively loosens curls every time you style. As you straighten your hair, Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Naturally Straight’s naturally derived plant fibers invisibly attach to hair to loosen curl and help lock in straightness. The formula’s humidity barrier of organic cassava extract and maize defends against frizz. The more you use it, the easier it is to create straight, smooth styles, so you can spend less time with a blow dryer and flat iron every day. It is safe for relaxed and color treated hair. After five consecutive applications of Naturally Straight, hair will stay straight for up to three washes.

Apply Aveda Naturally Straight to towel dried hair, blow dry and if needed flat iron.

I didn’t see a huge change with the first use of Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight. My styling time was the same as if I had not used this styling creme and it didn’t turn out as straight as it does when I use other products I love. With the second use I did like the result better but I wasn’t wowed. I could still feel waves at the root and my hair was still rather thick. Here is my hair blown out and flat ironed.

I do see that my curly hair has become wavy and my wavy hair has become straighter so it is gradually working for me. Here is my hair, washed after the first use of Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight.

Hair washed after first use of Aveda Naturally Straight

I’ve definitely had my hair much straighter than this but I now believe what the product claims is true, the best results come after the 5th use. I haven’t used Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight a third time yet because I don’t like blow drying and flat ironing my hair, that’s too much heat applied too often in my opinion for my hair. I want to give my hair a break, I’m no professional and don’t want to heat damage my hair. When I use my current hair treatment I blow dry and flat iron once and then  over the next 30 days or so I can choose to blow dry or flat iron after each wash. I don’t have to do it 5 times to get the result I want.

Final Thoughts: I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I like it and I’m growing to love it as it gradually improves manageability for me. For my hair I plan to use Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight as a maintenance product in between keratin treatments or other non-permanent treatments. My curls and waves are super stubborn. It’s a good product but not a stand alone product for me right now.

My hair is awful. It’s super fine, but I’ve got a lot of it. So it’s not only difficult to manage, to difficult to style, too. It doesn’t hold curl at all. I’ve got one wave…. just one in the back of my hair hah!

Ugh! My hair is insane. Wurly, sensitive to humidity and unwilling to do as it’s asked. I am learning how to style it wurly, it’s easier on me and a lot faster than fighting with it.

I haven’t used Aveda products in a quite a while. My hair is so funky and sensitive… If I use a straightening product… sometimes my natural curls take forever to come back.

I am like you, I use these kind of products with a grain of salt. I rely more on keratin and blow drying straight. My hair is very frizzy and wavy if I don’t do anything or add product.

Your hair looks amazing. I am so the same as you, I have the Aveda Brillance line and like it but as a maintenance for my Brazilian Blowout. Great review!

Your hair is amazing and I could only dream of having your problems. Damn my fine, limp hair. As the saying goes, it’s always greener ….

I believe I tried a sample of this product a couple of years ago. I was very excited to try it. But after using the sample a couple of times, it did not perform better than my current product. I’m glad that you stuck with it, and that it’s working for you! I didn’t know that it built up over time!

I have straight hair front but wavy in back. It drives me nuts! May try this out

I have different levels of curl in my hair, too – the closer to the nape and edges, the curlier; the closer to the crown, the straighter it gets. I wonder if this system would help make all my hair like the slight wave at the crown…

I deeefinitely need this. I agree with Nidia, I have “hermit curls” so my underbrush is a lot curlier than the top of my head.

You are gorgeous – that skin! I’m not sure if this would work for my curls – there’s just a whole lot going on in my hair!

I’m honestly not a fan of anything from Aveda. It’s a combo of the overly herbal scent and the fact that the line never really works for me.

Where was this when I was straightening my natural hair?

Is it worth the price or do you recommend other product for less? You’re beautiful by the way!

I absolutely love Aveda products and had forgot all about them until this post. Thank you for reminding me.

I have partial wavy hair (the underneath) which is a pain to style. I bought the leave in treatment and POW! I can actually let my hair air dry and it is straight! I was totally impressed with this stuff!

Is this good for relaxed hair as well? Just wondering looks like it did a great job

I got the Aveda Naturally Straight works – the shampoo, conditioner, style-prep and smooth infusion. I blow dried my hair and it was dry and smooth. Two hours later it has kinked and frizzed in weird places even though I stayed indoors. I did work it through, etc. I really don’t get why it has such good ratings. I do better with a regular firm hold styling foam. I think it works with the flat iron only which I don’t do cause my hair is so thin. Big disappointment. But Mina your hair looks great!
