Whether you are an interstate or international tourist or a local that hasn’t ventured out into the CBD in a while, Melbourne is a thriving city that doesn’t stay the same for very long, and no, we’re not just referring to our well-known weather climate. Don’t let that discourage you. Our city has some wonderful places to uncover no matter what the season. Whether it’s sunbaking at St Kilda Beach in the summer, or rugging up with a coffee in a laneway cafe in the winter, there are also a variety of different ways you can encounter our beautiful city.
Now, let me show you how you can explore Melbourne on an intimate level.
A home away from home:
There are many ways to experience Melbourne, and depending on your style, one is through the type of accommodation you choose. Are you the type of person who is accustomed to secluded, cozy living and you like a sense of familiarity within a new environment? Then there are a number of serviced apartments in Melbourne, which could be the ideal option for you. This studio apartment hotel option, such as those located close to Queen Victoria Market, give you all the amenities of home while allowing you to not have to make the bed or clean the room. A home away from home, but with your own housekeeping service.
Take a scavenger hunt and discover the unknown:
Regardless of whether you’re a local or a traveler, Melbourne is a perfect city if you are willing to discover those that are off the normal path. A wonderful place for those who don’t mind looking in unexpected places for their next cafe, bar or boutique, our city is famous for hiding a good coffee or shop in a secluded laneway. So if you choose to delve, you may come across a perfect haunt or a great purchase.
A trip to the seaside:
Whether it’s down at St Kilda or around at Williamstown beach, Melbourne has a multitude of sandy beaches located only a few kilometers from the CBD. From Sandringham to Brighton Beach with its fresh sand (in comparison to its pebbled English counterpart) and famous painted bathing boxes.
One thing is for sure, as Australia’s bay capital, a drive to the beach is closer than you may think.
A day/night at the markets:
If you’re a person who likes to seek out artisans and handcrafted products, a traveler’s souvenir or a lover of culinary delights, our markets are a perfect place. Among those in Melbourne include Prahran Market and South Melbourne. If you are in the CBD or North Melbourne, of course, there is the famed Queen Victoria Market, located in Queensbury St. Whether it’s the famous doughnuts, a tourist t-shirt or you’re gathering the fresh catch of the day for your next dish, the historic market always has something to offer.
The Sunday morning markets are that of a known institutional among many Melburnians. They run from 9 am to 4 pm. It also runs a regular night market on Wednesdays from 5 pm to 10 pm during the winter months. Therefore, if it sounds like your ideal night out, you could grab a great handcraft, and some decent street food on the side before driving home to bed. Now, whether you are an out of town Aussie who hasn’t been in the CBD’s attractions for a while, or you’re a traveling tourist who wants to discover what there is to explore, there are some of the many ways that you can experience our beautiful city like a local.
