Julep Maven Bombshell – September 2012 | Trina Turk Fall Edition

Julep Maven Bombshell September - Trina Turk Fall 2012

My September Julep Maven Bombshell box arrived last week but honestly I was too busy then tired and lazy to swatch, photograph and write. This month, Julep teamed up with Trina Turk so I was excited to see what fabulous awesomeness she would bring to the table nail polish rack! The nail colors in this collaboration were inspired by the Trina Turk Fall 2012 Modernist Maverick Collection. My personal Julep Maven profile is It Girl which had gorgeous colors but I decided to switch this month simply because I already have many similar shade of one polish and the other two aren’t my style. I’m all for trying new things however I’m also no hoarder so in the case of makeup and nail polish, I’m not one who wants every color in the rainbow. I want items I assume I’ll use numerous times. The Trina Turk Fall 2012 collection for Julep Maven gave many beautiful choices and made picking a new box tough. After much debate, I decided to try the Bombshell box because I have nothing close to the colors in my collection and I was curious enough to try something other than nail polish from Julep.

American Beauty Volumizing Mascara

American Beauty Volumizing Mascara jet black is the first Julep beauty item I’ve tried and part of why I chose the Bombshell box this month. I love my lashes as they are but I simply wanted to try a beauty item from Julep. This mascara is supposed to have ingredient the enhance lash growth and condition lashes. The applicator, made of micro-fiber is meant to separate, thicken and plump lashes…hence volumizing mascara. I love the packaging, something about the shape and clear view of the product inside highly appeals to me. One side of the mascara wand applicator is flat while the opposite side has longer bristles raised on a slight curve. The formula appears thick however when I applied it, it looked rather thin on my lashes. I look a well coated look so I ended up using the flat side plus tip in a side swiping motion to coat my lashes. Then used the longer, curved side to spread the mascara while separating the lashes. It worked for me.

I didn’t feel like my lashes were conditioned, I actually had quite a few lashes fall out in clumps hours after drying. Eyelashes falling out is inevitable but it seemed more than usual for me. What made it better for me on the second use is conditioning my lashes with Vaseline 20-30 minutes before applying, no clumps of lash fall out this time! All in all, I like the mascara with using Vaseline prior to application and solely for a daytime look. Is it a holy grail for me? Absolutely not but I will keep it around as a nice back up. I love mascara but I’m not the go-to person for mascara recommendations quite yet, I just know what I like. When I want to know about the latest and greatest, I head over to my girl Brittany for the 411! Brittany is bomb when it comes to mascara which makes sense as she runs the go-to mascara blog, Clumps Of Mascara.

Annie

Annie is described as an electric blue topaz creme and is my favorite from the September Julep Maven Bombshell box. It is gorgeous and glided on like butter. Not too thin, not too thick. Annie is what I look for in fall colors as a fun, bright Florida girl. Seasons are quite different here, while other regions experience falling leaves and dropping temperature, us southerners are often full of sunshine and many beach worthy days. I love that and like my beauty and fashion to reflect such, so I like fall/winter looks that are deeper in color but still somewhat rich and bright.

Alma

Alma is yet again a perfect example of a well balanced color that is great for fall but bright enough for sunshine state darlings. Alma is a retro dijon yellow creme. Dijon for sure, it nearly looks like mustard! I also really love this color, another hit for the Julep Maven Bombshell box, making me happy with my choice. I tell ya, Trina Turk knocked these colors out of the park, gorgeous nail polish! The formula for Alma is a bit thinner than Annie but not too runny to be a disaster. I found it workable yet because of it’s liquidyness, I applied with more care to avoid making a mess. Haha, I totally just wrote liquidyness…this is why my email signature says “word maker-upper”. My honors English teacher would give me some serious stink eye right now!

I got an email asking what the Julep nail polish brushes look like and it made me wonder if I’ve ever shown a photo of the actual brush. Instead of searching through previous posts, I took a photo of one to share just in case!

Julep Maven Bombshell | Trina Turk Edition

To wrap it up, I like the Julep Maven Bombshell box for September featuring Trina Turk Fall 2012 nail polish American Beauty Volumizing Mascara is okay and I love Annie and Alma nail polish. I think Trina Turk did a great job in the Julep collab and I’m very satisfied with my choice to switch this month. I also love the quote selected for this month’s box…

[quoteicon author=”Yves Saint Laurent”]Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.[/quoteicon]

Julep Maven is a monthly subscription program in which you receive new Sneak Peek Box of Julep products. I think the program is worth enrolling in simply because you can try it out cheap, there is no obligation to buy since you skip months without being charged and if you do purchase you get over $40 worth of Julep products for $19.99 which is a good saving.
