June’s Julep Maven It Girl Box was delivered today! With this program you have the option to switch your regular monthly box with another and let me tell you, every box had something appealing! So many gorgeous nail polish colors to choose from and the others include sunblock. I use sunblock like I breathe oxygen but all the other boxes had at least one item I already have a dupe of or simply wouldn’t use. So I stood by my trusty It Girl box, which has colors I don’t already have.
The contents of the Julep Maven It Girl – June 2012 box are:
- Sasha – Cantaloupe melon creme
- Sandra – Frosted magenta
- Morgan – Frosty grape purple
- Daylight Defense SPF 15 Lip Balm – Vanilla Mint
- 2 Replacement Brushes (explanation below)
- Bonus: 2 Pixy Stix!!! (gosh I love these, yumtastic!)
Retail Julep total: $42 , Price via Julep Maven Program: $19.99 (I do not know the price of the lip balm)
This month I can say that I absolutely love my Julep Maven It Girl box! Though the formula of Julep nail polish is not my favorite, it isn’t horrible for me. How do I put this? Umm… … …got it! I wouldn’t pay full price ($14) for one but I don’t hate them and refuse to buy like I do with E.L.F. nail polish. (I love E.L.F. by the way, just hate their nail polish…with a passion!) Getting these when discounted or in the maven box is a deal, about $6 per bottle. I’m okay with that. Now on to the goodies and swatches!
Julep describes Sasha as a cantaloupe melon shade. I tend to agree but to further describe it I’d say it is a mixture of tangerine and bittersweet or bittersweet and salmon…either way it’s probably in the coral family and I love it. Sandra is a gorgeous frosty magenta, maybe even a hint of rose. I didn’t want to take it off but I still had one last shade to swatch. Morgan is also a frosty shade of purple. I can see why Julep claims grape purple because it does remind me of grape cough syrup I had to take as a child…just prettier and I don’t have to taste it’s grossness! I like all the colors but I must say Sandra is my favorite!
Julep Daylight Defense SPF Lip Balm in vanilla mint is bomb! Then again I’m lip junk obsessed. Anywho, it doesn’t look like anything special but it truly smells like vanilla and mint. I put it on immediately…okay, after I swallowed both Pixy Stix like a starving mountain lion. Seriously though, my lips instantly tingled from the minty goodness. It’s rather refreshing, it woke me up a bit. The lip balm is obviously solid but almost instantaneously softens to near liquid when it touches your lips…like nourishing gloss. So don’t go crazy with it unless you’re going for that greasy “just ate old school fried chicken” look. It lasted until I ate dinner which was about 5 hours. Mina likes.
So my April Julep Maven It Girl box was nice but some of the brushes were stank. Yes I said stank! I should take a photo but I’m lazy right now. Basically some of the brushes lost shape and it made application a complete mess. So much that I haven’t touched the polish since. Julep called this “a bad hair day”…I guess their way of saying it is nicer than my cranky brat description. So, they sent two replacement brushes in this month’s box. I think that was nice of them, good customer service points on this issue.
Julep Maven is a monthly subscription program in which you receive new Sneak Peek Box of Julep products. Each month you’ll receive an email letting you know your box is ready and a preview of what it includes. You’ll then have until the 25th of the month to request a different box, send your box to a friend or skip the month for no charge. If you want the box chosen for you, you’ll be charged $19.99 and the box will be shipped to you.
Julep Maven often gives the opportunity to try the first box at a deep discount, sometimes just 1 cent! Entering the promotion code “Penny” at checkout should work so give that a shot if you decide to try Julep. I think the program is worth enrolling in simply because you can try it out cheap, there is no obligation to buy since you skip months without being charged and if you do purchase you get over $40 worth of Julep products for $19.99 which is a good saving. Of course everyone has their own preferences so check out Julep.com and decide for yourself.
